Artist Statement

I believe art is a meeting point. At a unique moment in time, ideas, materials, and often collaborators converge. What emerges is a process of exploration and discovery. This process yields an artifact or fleeting moment of human experience that is revealing to both participant and viewer.

My artistic approach draws on the momenets in life and art that speak through imagery, gesture, humor, and surprise. I approach these from a human perspective, finding interest in individuality and commanality. Thus, I enjoy making work with people of all ages, with or without prior artistic experience.

Much like living in the desert does now, my experiences growing up in the South and traveling speak to me with a sense of place that I often refer to or investigate. Place leads me to the people that inhabit it, so my work frequently addresses psychology, culture, and societal issues relevant to the participants working in the group.

I approach my work as both choreographer and video artist from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Using contemporary dance, text, sound, and media, I construct work that varies from choreography for traditional performance spaces, created environments, and public areas to videos and installations.
